The craft cocktail movement has elevated our appreciation of the bartender’s art and spawned a generation of celebrity mixologists. It’s also stretched the definition of many classic cocktails almost beyond recognition.
To wit: Martinis made with sake, rather than vermouth, and garnished with cucumber, rather than olives. Manhattans flavored with apple cider and cinnamon. Bloody Marys that incorporate practically anything and everything in the refrigerator.
But no drink has undergone as radical a transformation as the margarita, the staple of the summer bar circuit.
